In a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police detailed coordinated operations that led to significant achievements in the fight against violent crime.
In Edo State, police operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes, rescued two individuals — Godday Irieude and Wisdom Emeka — who were abducted from their farm in the Ewatto area around 1:00 a.m. on June 26, 2025.
He said the rescue followed a strategic trail of the kidnappers to their hideout.
Upon arrival, the suspects engaged the operatives in a fierce gun battle but were overpowered.
However, the kidnappers fled with gunshot wounds, while the victims were rescued unhurt.
Meanwhile, in Delta State, acting on credible intelligence and armed with a search warrant, officers stormed a residence in the Mosogar area occupied by suspected cultists Koko Josh (29) and Asomugha Clinton (27).
Adejobi explained that a thorough search led to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds, two locally made guns, eight live cartridges, several mobile phones, a laptop, and fetish items.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two more suspects — Anthony Kelvin (26) and Gift Amotsuka (25) — all confirmed members of the Aiye Confraternity.
He said in Okpanam, Delta State, police apprehended Ekene Chroma (36) and Okafor Jonathan (18), who were found with two English-made single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges.
Preliminary findings indicate the suspects are involved in illegal arms trading, acting as couriers and suppliers to criminal networks.
The statement read, "In a separate operation in Funtua, Katsina State, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) apprehended one Yunusa Ishaku (40) in possession of two stolen vehicles (a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Camry).
"During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his role in a nationwide vehicle theft ring targeting Abuja, Jos, and other cities, with stolen vehicles being conveyed to Niger Republic for resale. He further revealed the locations of three additional stolen vehicles (Honda Accord, Toyota Carina II, Toyota Camry 98) in Zamfara and Bauchi states.
"Efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and recover more stolen exhibits.
In another related development, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the FID-IRT arrested one Alhaji Iya Bima, a 52-year-old man from Kem Shithem LGA, Adamawa State, in possession of one AK-47 rifle, two magazines and fifty rounds of live 7.62x39 mm ammunition.Further interrogation led to the recovery of an additional AK-47 rifle, three magazines and 50 rounds of ammunition."
Adejobi added that all suspects would be arraigned before the court of law upon completion of the investigation.
