HR Officer In a Fast-growing Startup Supermarket in Abuja


We are a fast-growing startup supermarket based in Gwarinpa, Abuja, seeking a skilled and proactive  HR Officer with a legal background to join our team. 

This role combines HR operations with legal compliance to ensure smooth, lawful, and efficient people management.

Job Title: HR Officer (Legal Background)

Location: Gwarinpa, Abuja

Experience Required: 2–5 Years (Retail experience required)

Industry: Retail / Supermarket (Startup)

Reports To: Founder / Operations Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and staff documentation
  • Draft and implement HR policies, employment contracts, and workplace procedures
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian labor laws and retail industry standards
  • Manage employee relations, handle grievances, and oversee disciplinary procedures
  • Provide legal advice to 
  • management on employment-related matters
  • Coordinate staff training and foster a positive, engaged workplace culture
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR records and reports
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager
  •  Requirements 
    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Law, or a related field (Postgraduate in HRM is a plus)
    • 2–5 years of HR experience, with proven experience in the retail sector
    • Strong knowledge of Nigerian labor law and HR best  
    • practices
    • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and organizational skills
    • High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, startup environment
